The Society and other national organizations are urging Congress to increase
funding for cancer research by 8.5%. Unless our lawmakers hear from us, Congress
is likely to propose only a 2.5% increase, slowing down vital
research for cancer cures and therapies.
Critical cancer-related
prevention and early detection programs at the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC), many of which serve medically underserved communities, are also at
stake, threatening the nation’s ability to prevent cancer or catch it early, when it is at a
more treatable stage.
This is a tight budget
year in Congress, and members have to make some difficult decisions as to which
programs to increase and which programs to cut. Thousands of survivors, patients, and
caregivers have joined the fight against cancer. Now, it’s time to let Congress know, "IF I
CAN, YOU CAN."
